Description
Research Overview
Kisspeptin is a family of neuropeptides encoded by the KISS1 gene and investigated extensively for its role in regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis.
Research Focus
Research has examined kisspeptin signalling in relation to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinising hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), puberty, reproductive endocrinology and the interaction between metabolic status and reproductive function.
Scientific Context
Kisspeptin acts through the kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R) and functions upstream of GnRH neurons. Human studies have investigated different kisspeptin isoforms and administration approaches, with research demonstrating effects on reproductive hormone secretion under specific experimental conditions.
Important Research Note
Kisspeptin remains an investigational research compound. Human research is ongoing, and findings from specific experimental studies should not be interpreted as evidence that kisspeptin is safe or effective for fertility treatment, hormone optimisation, reproductive enhancement or any other human application.
